Robert Crockett Administrative Services Deputy Director | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced a temporary closure of its Whittier office, located at 9338 S. Painter Ave., for repairs to a damaged exterior wall. The closure will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, with plans to reopen the facility by 8 a.m. on Monday, January 13.
During this period, customers are directed to alternative DMV offices in the vicinity. The Bell Gardens office at 6801 South Garfield Ave. is approximately seven miles away from the Whittier location. Another option is the Montebello office at 424 N. Wilcox Ave., situated eight miles from Whittier. Additionally, the West Covina office at 800 S. Glendora Ave. is available and located sixteen miles from the temporarily closed site.
The DMV emphasizes that many services can be accessed online without requiring an in-person visit. "Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit," stated a DMV representative, highlighting that self-service transactions are now predominantly digital.
Customers are encouraged to utilize the DMV's online services and other channels for tasks such as driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals that qualify for online processing. The Service Advisor tool on the DMV website offers guidance on completing various transactions remotely.
For those interested in paperless vehicle registration and driver's license renewal notices, signing up involves creating a secure online account and registering through dmv.ca.gov.
