Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several appointments across various boards and agencies.
Jaskiran “Jassy” Grewal from Sacramento has been appointed as Deputy Secretary of Legislation at the Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Grewal has a background in legislative work, having served as Legislative Director at United Food and Commercial Workers Western States Council since 2020. Her previous roles include Project Research Assistant at Mission Promise Neighborhood and Teach for America Teacher at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy. She holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the University of California, Davis. The position is not Senate confirmable with compensation set at $165,000.
Mark Krausse from Clarksburg will continue his role on the Public Employment Relations Board, where he has served since earlier this year. His past experience includes being Director of State Agency Relations for Pacific Gas and Electric and Executive Director of the Fair Political Practices Commission. He earned degrees from California State University, Sacramento, and the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. This appointment requires Senate confirmation with compensation of $180,840.
Joyce Kaufman from June Lake joins the Eastern Sierra Tri County Fair Board. She was a Professor at Whittier College until 2019 and is active in political science associations. Kaufman holds advanced degrees in International Relations and Political Science from institutions including New York University. The position does not require Senate confirmation or offer compensation.
Alonso Escobar from Mammoth Lakes also joins the Eastern Sierra Tri County Fair Board. Escobar serves as Arts Advocacy and Policy Director at Mono Arts Council and holds board positions with arts organizations in California. He studied International Relations at American University and International Studies at UCLA.
Bethany Renfree from Sutter Creek is appointed to the Amador County Fair Board (26th District Agricultural Association). Renfree works as a Legislative Director for Senator María Elena Durazo's office, previously holding policy roles within state government bodies. She graduated with degrees in Government from California State University, Sacramento.
Amber Hoiska from Ione takes a seat on the same fair board as Renfree. Hoiska is Vice President at PAC Shield Roof Services, Inc., with prior roles in business development within roofing companies. She participates actively in local planning commissions.
Shannon Clark from Plymouth is named to another position on the Amador County Fair Board while working as a teacher for Amador County Unified School District since 2001.
All appointees except Mark Krausse do not require Senate confirmation nor receive compensation for their positions.
