Governor Brian Kemp has announced the appointment of Dr. Jody Barrow as the new Executive Secretary of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). This decision comes as Matt Arthur, who held the position for four years, steps down.
"I want to congratulate Jody Barrow on this prestigious appointment and offer my thanks to Matt Arthur for his years of service to both the GaPSC and our state," stated Governor Kemp. He expressed confidence in Dr. Barrow's leadership to maintain high educational standards in Georgia.
Brian Sirmans, Chair of GaPSC and Assistant Principal at Lanier County Public Schools, expressed enthusiasm about Dr. Barrow's new role: "We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Barrow as he begins his new role as Executive Secretary." He praised Dr. Barrow’s experience and commitment to education.
Matt Arthur, retiring from his role as Executive Secretary after leading the Technical College System of Georgia, voiced his support for Dr. Barrow: "Governor Kemp made a wonderful recommendation of who should lead this agency."
Dr. Jody Barrow shared his gratitude upon receiving the nomination: "I am honored and humbled by the support of Governor Kemp and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission." He acknowledged Matt Arthur’s contributions and emphasized the importance of the Commission in enhancing educational opportunities.
With a career spanning 40 years in public education within Georgia, Dr. Barrow has served in various roles including teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools until 2020. His accolades include being named Outstanding Educator by GAEL and receiving several awards recognizing his leadership and contributions to education.
