California has strengthened its response to the Los Angeles fires through collaboration with the federal government. Governor Gavin Newsom expressed gratitude towards the Biden-Harris Administration for its prompt assistance in bolstering efforts to protect Californians. The governor met with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell in Los Angeles to discuss the situation.

President Biden, after being briefed alongside Governor Newsom on the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires, approved a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration. This approval supports ongoing efforts related to these significant wildfires. Furthermore, President Biden authorized an increase in federal aid, covering 100% of California's fire management and debris removal costs for 180 days, up from the usual 75%.

The declaration provides federal funding to help state, tribal, and local governments manage emergency response expenses. It also includes Individual Assistance programs for affected residents and businesses, such as temporary housing and financial support for damaged property. Affected Californians can apply for this aid at disasterassistance.gov.

"President Biden and his Administration have been incredible partners in our ongoing fight against these unprecedented wildfires," said Governor Gavin Newsom. "In addition to more federal funding and critical reimbursement, the President has directed firefighting resources to add to the thousands of boots already on the ground."

President Biden has also offered substantial fire suppression support to California, including eight large air tankers, 19 helicopters, and numerous engines.

Earlier this week, Governor Newsom announced that California secured Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAG) from FEMA. These grants ensure vital resources are available to combat fires in Los Angeles County. The FMAGs will help local, state, and tribal agencies apply for full reimbursement of eligible fire suppression costs.
