John F. King Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner | Georgia Department of Insurance & Safety Fire
Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King has partnered with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to tackle food insecurity in Georgia. The food bank distributes around 10 million pounds of food monthly but is struggling to meet the growing demand, which has surged by 40% over the past 18 months. Currently, one in eight Georgians faces difficulty accessing food, and one in five children in the state goes to bed hungry.
The initiative "Food Actually" is a two-week fundraising competition involving metro Atlanta's insurance industry, including insurers, brokers, agents, and other related services. This event aims to foster team building and community engagement while supporting Georgia families. The target for this year's competition is to raise $50,000 to provide 150,000 meals before the holiday season.
The competition runs from October 7 to October 18. Participants earn points through monetary contributions—where every dollar equals one point—and additional points by volunteering at the food bank or promoting the event on social media. The company that raises the most funds per employee will be awarded the ATL Community Food Bank President’s Award.
Georgians are encouraged to contact their local insurance agents and companies to participate in this initiative. For each dollar donated, the Atlanta Community Food Bank can supply enough food for three meals.

The Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire aims "to protect Georgia families by providing access to vital insurance products and safe buildings through fair regulation that creates economic opportunities for all Georgians."
