The Moselle Estate House, once the scene of a high-profile murder case involving attorney Alex Murdaugh, has been sold to Alexander Wallace Blair, a businessman from South Carolina. The property, located in Islandton, SC, was purchased at auction for $1 million in February 2024. The original estate was part of a larger 1,700-acre property where Murdaugh's wife and son were murdered.
Blair plans to transform the 21-acre property into a horse farm while undertaking significant renovations. Images shared on his Facebook account reveal extensive changes to the house, including an extension and updates to the interior. "Moselle will be a completely different looking home in a few short months," Blair stated.
The previous owners, James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley, retained most of the land for hunting and farming but chose to sell the house itself. They sought a buyer who would be a good neighbor in their community. Godley commented on this decision: “We seek a new neighbor to enjoy this gorgeous house and land.”
Alex Murdaugh is serving two life sentences for murdering his wife Maggie and son Paul on June 7, 2021. His conviction included financial fraud charges related to defrauding clients and money laundering. Prosecutors argued that these crimes were part of his motive for murder.
Murdaugh has appealed his convictions while settling other legal matters, including a wrongful death lawsuit linked to his son Paul's involvement in a fatal boat crash in 2019.
