Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support efforts in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties to combat the Bridge Fire. Additionally, California has requested federal assistance for the response to the Airport Fire in Orange County.

The Bridge Fire, which rapidly expanded to over 34,000 acres on Tuesday in the Angeles National Forest, poses a threat to homes in Wrightwood and Mt. Baldy communities.

"California is battling multiple fast-moving wildfires in rugged locations in Southern California. I’m thankful for the support the Biden-Harris Administration is providing to firefighter teams working round the clock to contain these challenging fires and safeguard the lives and property of Californians," stated Governor Gavin Newsom.

The FMAG, funded through the President’s Disaster Relief Fund on a cost-share basis, allows local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75-percent reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs.

Earlier this wildfire season, California secured FMAGs for several other fires including Borel, Park, Thompson, French, Hawarden, Boyles, and Line fires.
