California has mobilized nearly 6,000 personnel to combat multiple fast-growing wildfires across the state. This response includes firefighters, soldiers, law enforcement, and first responders working around the clock to protect affected communities.
The state's coordinated efforts involve substantial air and ground resources. The deployed assets include 5,755 personnel across 162 crews, 51 helicopters, nine fixed-wing aircraft—comprising seven CAL FIRE aircraft and two National Guard C-130s—520 fire engines, 75 dozers, and 141 water tankers.
Governor Gavin Newsom commented on the situation: "We are working day and night to protect communities up and down the state of California. Our response includes nearly 6,000 boots on the ground, hundreds of engines and water tankers, and the world’s largest aerial firefighting force."
Newsom also expressed gratitude for those involved: "Thank you to our brave firefighters, soldiers and first responders for the 24/7 work to keep our communities safe."
As of now, there are 16 active wildfires in California that have burned a total of 613,819 acres. Since the beginning of this year, California has experienced 6,045 wildfires that have consumed more than 900,000 acres. Current wildfire information can be accessed at fire.ca.gov.
In addition to immediate firefighting efforts, long-term strategies are also in place. The state's budget for 2024 allocated $2.6 billion through 2028 aimed at improving forest health via fire prevention programs such as prescribed fires and other fuel reduction projects.
