The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced the closure of its Driver Safety Office in San Bernardino, located at 1845 Business Center Drive Suite 211. The office will cease operations at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 6.

This decision is part of the DMV's broader digital transformation initiative aimed at improving efficiency and better serving customer needs. The DMV recently implemented a new Case Management System (CMS) to streamline work processes, reduce costs, and enhance overall operations. This modern digital system allows drivers and their attorneys to interact with the Driver Safety Office more conveniently by eliminating the need for in-person visits or phone calls to request or conduct hearings, check case statuses, or fulfill requirements for reinstating suspended driver licenses. It is important to note that this system does not cover basic driver licensing or vehicle registration services.

With the introduction of CMS, maintaining a Driver Safety Office field office in 17 different locations has become inefficient and cost-ineffective. Consequently, the DMV is closing and consolidating offices statewide.

San Bernardino team members will be reassigned to nearby DMV locations. Customers can still visit Driver Safety Offices at the following area locations:

- Covina: 1365 N Grand Ave Ste 101 (40 miles away)

- Commerce: 5801 E Slausen Ave Ste 250 (58 miles away)

The DMV encourages customers to utilize its online services for most tasks that do not require an office visit. These include simple self-service transactions no longer available in offices. The Service Advisor on the DMV website provides information on completing various DMV tasks.

Customers wishing to receive paperless vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal notices must sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov and opt-in for these services.
