The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the temporary closure of its El Centro office, located at 233 N. Imperial Ave., for remediation purposes. The reopening date remains undetermined.

In the interim, customers requiring in-person services are advised to visit the Brawley office at 173 W. Main St., approximately 14 miles away from El Centro.

The DMV encourages customers to utilize its online services and other digital channels for most transactions, including driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. "Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit," a spokesperson stated. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to explore their options for completing various tasks.

To receive paperless vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal notices, customers should sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov and opt-in.
