A state-backed alternative insurer that helps Florida residents who are unable to find private property insurance coverage will suspend cancellations and non-renewals for 45 days in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to suspension of cancellations and non-renewals, adjustments have been made to underwriting guidelines to add flexibility for policyholders. Citizens Property Insurance serves more than 445,000 policyholders across Florida.
“We understand the circumstances many of our policyholders may be going through in light of COVID-19 and are doing what we can to help them get through this unprecedented event,” Citizens CEO Barry Gilway told Florida Daily.
The state CFO’s office said Citizens’ COVID-19 relief efforts are similar to hurricane responses.
“Many in our communities are reeling from the economic impacts of this pandemic and we must do everything we can to provide relief to Florida families and protect consumers as we weather this storm,” Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis said to Florida Daily.
