Dickies, a well-known apparel company, has announced the relocation of its headquarters from Fort Worth, Texas to Orange County, California. This move marks a significant shift for the company that has been based in Texas for over a century. The new headquarters is set to open in Costa Mesa, California in early 2025.
California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his approval of Dickies' decision, stating: “California continues to lead the way with a strong job market and consistent economic growth. We are pleased to welcome Dickies to the Golden State — the fifth largest economy in the world and a welcoming place to grow and support their ongoing success.”
The relocation aligns Dickies with California's robust economic environment. As of 2023, California maintains its position as the world's fifth-largest economy with a nominal GDP nearing $3.9 trillion and an annual growth rate of 6.1%, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
In addition to being home to numerous Fortune 500 companies, California also boasts one of the most equitable tax systems in the country and leads in several key business sectors including venture capital funding, manufacturing, high-tech business, and agriculture.
Tourism remains a vital component of California's economy as well. In 2023, travel spending reached $150.4 billion, setting a new record and generating $12.7 billion in state and local tax revenue while creating nearly 65,000 jobs.
The state's commitment to job creation is evident through initiatives like the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint announced by Governor Newsom and regional partners. This initiative aims to drive sustainable economic growth and job creation over the next decade with an upcoming release detailing further investments.
