Americans considering relocating from the U.S. after Donald Trump's 2024 presidential election victory are being presented with an opportunity to purchase homes in Italy for as little as $1. The village of Ollolai, located on the island of Sardinia, has made this offer available just two weeks after Trump defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

The promotional website for this initiative asks potential buyers: “Are you [worn] out by global politics? Looking to embrace a more balanced lifestyle while securing new opportunities?” It invites them to start building their "European escape" in Sardinia's scenic surroundings. Although specific homes have not yet been listed, prices will range from 1 euro—approximately $1.05 US—to €100,000.

Francesco Columbu, mayor of Ollolai, explained to CNN that the properties will be categorized into three tiers: free temporary accommodations for certain digital nomads, homes needing renovations priced at 1 euro, and move-in-ready homes starting at €100,000.

This is not Ollolai's first venture into selling inexpensive homes. The village initiated the "€1 house phenomenon" in 2018 to attract new residents and boost its economy amid declining population rates. This earlier scheme attracted international buyers who transformed abandoned properties despite their initial condition.

Mayor Columbu aims specifically at attracting American buyers following Trump's election win. He told CNN that Americans would receive a fast-track procedure and described them as a "winning card" for reviving the village. “We just really want, and will focus on, Americans above all,” he stated.

To facilitate property purchases, Columbu has assembled a team of experts to assist new buyers with everything from hiring workers to handling paperwork and permits.

Despite only ten 1-euro homes having been purchased and renovated since 2018, Columbu remains optimistic about attracting more homeowners through this renewed offer. There are no restrictions on how American buyers can use these properties once acquired.

Ollolai boasts several attractions such as historical culture and exquisite cuisine which may appeal to potential residents despite its decreasing population. The promotional website highlights Ollolai’s unique features: “Nestled in pristine nature...in the rare Earth’s Blue Zone...the perfect destination to reconnect, recharge, and embrace a new way of life.”

The site promises guidance throughout the buying process from arranging viewings to navigating bureaucracy for those interested in purchasing either a renovation project or a ready-to-live-in home.
