The 2025 Open Enrollment period has commenced in Georgia with the introduction of Georgia Access, the state's new health insurance exchange. Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced the launch at a Liberty Plaza event attended by state officials, healthcare partners, agents, athletes, and other guests.

Commissioner King highlighted partnerships with two major sports teams—the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Dream—as part of the public awareness campaign for open enrollment. "Open Enrollment is the optimal time for Georgians to explore affordable options for health coverage," stated Commissioner King. He emphasized that these collaborations aim to simplify the enrollment process and reduce uninsured rates in Georgia.

Georgia Access offers various enrollment methods through certified agents, Enhanced Direct Enrollment partners like web brokers and insurance companies, or directly via their consumer portal. Plan premiums and financial assistance eligibility remain consistent across all platforms.

Cheryl Gardner, Executive Director of Georgia Access, noted that transitioning to a State-based Exchange has been a long-term goal since 2019. She encouraged Georgians to compare plans to find suitable coverage options.

Alan Thomas from the Georgia Bulldogs expressed support for Georgia Access's efforts in improving statewide healthcare access: "We are committed to raising awareness about the critical need for health coverage." Laila Brock from the Atlanta Dream echoed similar sentiments about promoting healthcare and well-being in communities.

Since its inception, Georgia Access has increased carrier participation significantly, with most counties offering multiple on-exchange plan options. The previous open enrollment period saw over 1.3 million Georgians enrolling in marketplace coverage—a record number for the state.

Consumers previously enrolled through HealthCare.gov have been transitioned automatically to Georgia Access. Coverage starts January 1, 2025, for plans selected by December 16, 2024; plans chosen between December 17 and January 15 will begin February 1. Those not eligible may qualify for other state programs like Medicaid or Medicare.

For more information or assistance with enrollment options, consumers can visit https://georgiaaccess.gov/ or contact the Georgia Access Contact Center at 888-687-1503 during specified hours.
