The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Santa Clara will temporarily close its office for an inspection as part of a long-term plan to upgrade infrastructure. During this period, customers are advised to visit alternative offices located in San Jose, Los Gatos, Santa Teresa, and Fremont.

The San Jose office is 10 miles away from the Santa Clara location at 111 West Alma Ave. The Los Gatos office is situated 13 miles away at 600 North Santa Cruz Ave. For those willing to travel further, the Santa Teresa office can be found at 180 Martinvale Lane, which is 19 miles away. Additionally, the Fremont office is located 20 miles from Santa Clara at 4287 Central Ave.

Before heading to any DMV office, customers are encouraged to try online services first. The DMV has expanded its digital offerings significantly. "Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit," says a statement encouraging the use of online services for tasks like driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals.

For more guidance on completing DMV-related transactions online or through other service channels, customers can utilize the Service Advisor tool available on the DMV website.

Additionally, individuals interested in receiving paperless notices for vehicle registration and driver's license renewals must create a secure account on dmv.ca.gov and opt into this feature.

To stay updated with the latest information from the California DMV, individuals can sign up for news alerts through their website.
