Serenity Thompson Deputy Director of Digital Services | State of California DMV
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the reopening of its Needles office on October 21. The office, located at 1040 East Broadway St., had been closed since May 24 for renovations. Improvements included an expanded area for customer service and new flooring and furniture.
The Needles office will operate on a schedule designed to enhance efficiency. It will be open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Mondays and Fridays, the hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while on Wednesdays, it opens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents in the area are encouraged to apply for a REAL ID during their visit. "Starting May 7, 2025," according to the DMV statement, "the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require a valid passport or other federally approved documents, like a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases."
To streamline the process of obtaining a REAL ID, applicants can visit REALID.dmv.ca.gov beforehand to fill out an online application and upload necessary documents. After printing a confirmation code from the site, they can bring it along with their documents to complete the transaction at the DMV office without needing an appointment.
The DMV highlights its efforts in expanding digital services as part of its digital transformation initiative. Many tasks that previously required an office visit can now be completed online through various service channels provided by the DMV website.
Customers interested in receiving paperless vehicle registration and driver's license renewal notices can sign up or create an account at dmv.ca.gov.
