Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has begun serving a seven-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to making illegal political contributions and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business. On the day he started his sentence, Salame updated his LinkedIn profile humorously, stating: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Inmate at FCI Cumberland!”

Salame, who previously served as co-CEO of FTX's Bahamian affiliate, was sentenced in May to 7.5 years in prison and three years of supervised release. He agreed to forfeit $1.5 billion and pay over $5 million in restitution.

The Massachusetts native worked alongside Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced founder of FTX, who is currently serving a 25-year sentence for his involvement in an $8 billion fraud that led to the collapse of the crypto exchange in November 2022.

Amidst these legal troubles, attention has turned to Salame’s personal property—a mansion in Potomac, Maryland. Purchased in 2022 for nearly $4 million, the home is now valued at approximately $4.2 million according to Realtor.com. The New York Times reported that the proceeds from its sale are set to be surrendered.

The FBI searched Salame’s home following charges brought against him by prosecutors. The expansive residence features luxurious amenities including a heated pool, hot tub, swim spa, home theater, billiard room, and wine cellar.
