Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several appointments to various positions within California's state government. Jennifer Troia of Sacramento has been named Director at the California Department of Social Services. Troia, who has served as Chief Deputy Director at the department since 2020, will take on this new role pending Senate confirmation. Her extensive experience includes roles such as Principal Consultant for the Joint Legislative Budget Committee and Policy Advisor in the Office of California State Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de Leon.
Nathan Williams from Washington, D.C., has been appointed Chief of the Immigration Integration Branch at the Office of Equity within the California Department of Social Services. Williams brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Council.
Daphne Hunt from Fair Oaks will assume the position of Chief Deputy Director at the California Department of Community Services and Development. Hunt has been with the department since 2021 as Deputy Director of Programs and previously held roles in legislative affairs and research within California's state government.
Roy Bucton, Susan DeMarois, Ariana “Rian” Dindzans, Anisa Escobedo, and M. Lisa Hayes have all been reappointed to positions on the California State Independent Living Council. Each brings a unique background to their roles on this council that focuses on disability rights and advocacy.
These appointments reflect Governor Newsom's continued efforts to fill key positions with experienced individuals committed to public service in various capacities across state departments.
