Governor Newsom signs multiple new laws across diverse sectors

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several bills into law, addressing a range of issues from education and cannabis to public safety and healthcare. The newly signed legislation includes:

- AB 1113 by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) focuses on the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System and expanded learning opportunity programs.

- AB 1775 by Assemblymember Matt Haney (D-San Francisco) pertains to the retail preparation, sale, and consumption of non-cannabis food and beverage products in cannabis establishments.

- AB 1778 by Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) addresses regulations for electric bicycles.

- AB 2106, also by Assemblymember Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), deals with probation matters.

- AB 2515 by Assemblymember Diane Papan (D-San Mateo) concerns the use of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in menstrual products.

- AB 2684 by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan (D-Los Angeles) involves safety measures related to extreme heat.

Additionally, several Senate Bills were signed:

- SB 242 by Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) establishes the California Hope, Opportunity, Perseverance, and Empowerment (HOPE) for Children Trust Account Program.

- SB 422 by Senator Anthony Portantino (D-Burbank) relates to unemployment compensation in the motion picture industry.

- SB 1069 by Senator Caroline Menjivar (D-San Fernando Valley/Burbank) concerns the State prisons' Office of the Inspector General.

Governor Newsom also announced vetoes on two bills:

- AB 274 by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan (D-Los Angeles), which would have impacted CalWORKs and CalFresh eligibility regarding income exclusions.

- SB 906 by Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley), concerning student athlete compensation in collegiate athletics.
