Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several new bills into law. The newly enacted legislation covers a range of topics, from planning and zoning to health care services.
The bills signed include AB 98 by Assemblymember Juan Carrillo (D-Palmdale), which focuses on logistics use and truck routes; AB 347 by Assemblymember Philip Ting (D-San Francisco) concerning household product safety and toxic substances; and AB 772 by Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson (D-Moreno Valley), which pertains to child day care facilities.
Additional bills signed by the Governor include AB 796 by Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (D-San Diego) related to athletic trainers, and AB 801 by Assemblymember Joe Patterson (R-Rocklin) addressing student privacy regarding online personal information. Other notable signings are AB 866 by Assemblymember Blanca Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) on juvenile care and treatment, and AB 977 by Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) concerning assault and battery in emergency departments.
Governor Newsom also approved AB 1755 by Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D-San Jose), which deals with civil actions for restitution or replacement of new motor vehicles, along with several other bills addressing a variety of issues such as menstrual products for incarcerated persons, the California Consumer Privacy Act, mental health, disability compensation, tuberculosis healthcare services, and more.
In addition to the signed bills, Governor Newsom vetoed a number of proposed laws. These include AB 637 by Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson (D-Moreno Valley) regarding zero-emission vehicles for fleet owners, AB 1111 by Assemblymember Gail Pellerin (D-Santa Cruz) related to cannabis event sales licenses, and several others focusing on issues such as public works wages, maternity ward closures in public health, tax exclusions related to wildfires, among others.
