Residents of Florida zip code 33070, the location of the Islamorada Village of Islands, pay the highest home insurance premiums in the nation, according to a recent analysis by Insurance.com.
The website, which educates consumers about insurance issues, used a calculator that examined home insurance rates nationwide based on coverage for a $300,000 dwelling with a $1,000 deductible and $300,000 in liability coverage. The average annual premium for that amount of coverage in zip code 33070 was $6,295, which was more than twice the national average of $2,305, Insurance.com reported.
The average home insurance rate based on those criteria varies around the state, with a low of $1,958 in zip code 34956 in Indiantown. Zip code 32307 in Tallahassee was slightly more expensive at $2,186, and those living in The Villages with a 32162 zip code were paying an average of $2,920. The average yearly cost in Pensacola zip code 32502 was $4,746, while homeowners in an Orlando zip code paid $3,377 and some Miami residents paid $5,187.
The website identified several key factors influencing how much homeowners pay for their insurance premiums, including a home’s location and its exposure to extreme weather, wildfires or criminal activities; a home’s value; the cost to rebuild the home; its proximity to a fire station; and the home’s age.
