FinTech Magazine recently ranked Kin Insurance as one of the 10 best home and rental companies in the insurtech space.
FinTech said it used Financial Technology Partners (FT Partners) research in determining its rankings. FT Partners said it is the sole investment banking firm to focus exclusively on the financial technology sector. A broad definition of that sector is the dynamic convergence of financial services and technology-based solutions.
Chicago-based Kin, a licensed home insurance technology company, specializes in insuring homes in disaster-prone regions in the United States.
Sean Harper, Lucas Ward, and Stephen Wooten founded the company in 2016 as a property and casualty insurance company, launching in Florida that year. The company established its own insurance company in 2019 in the Kin Interinsurance Network (KIN). Kin serves as a managing general agent in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama.

The Guarantors, an insurtech company catering to residential and commercial real estate professionals, their respective residents and their tenants. FinTech said it claims a faster list-to-lease time than most of its competitors at 22 days.
Bamboo, a new organization backed by some of the largest insurance carriers.
New York-based Lemonade, which uses artificial intelligence, chatbots and other innovations to disrupt the home and rental insurance sectors. FinTech said Maya, its chatbot, uses AI to create and deliver personalized insurance polices and handle customer claims without insurance brokers.
Sagesure, a subsidiary of Insight Catastrophe Group, provides insurance for customers in challenged areas. It partners with highly rated carriers to serve each market’s needs.
Home and contents insurtech Hippo, based in Palo Alto, California. AI and big data enable Hippo to aggregate and analyze property information. FinTech said it sells policies directly to customers and through independent brokers.
German insurtech One insurance, a team of industry experts, engineers and entrepreneurs on its list, also made the FinTech's list. The carrier launched ONECoach, an optimization tool tracking habits, data and location to suggest the best policy in the event of damage. Travel insurance logged via an app for trips away from home will automatically end coverage when a traveler is back in their home country.
Jetty, headquartered in New York, works for “everyday renters,” FinTech said. It assists property owners and renters by streamlining and making the process cost-effective.
Columbus-based Matic Insurance Services aids lenders and loan officers to better integrate homeowner’s insurance into lending, FinTech said. Matic claims it can provide multiple policy options in seconds for loan officers.
Policy Experts, based in the UK, focuses on customer centricity in the home insurance industry. With 600,000 customers, it’s one of the fastest-growing providers, FinTech said.
